HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR A TATTOO TO HEAL?

A fresh tattoo is considered an open wound so after care is very important. Experts say that the healing process is between 4-5 weeks. Healing process includes oozing, itching, peeling and continued aftercare. The healing time also depends on different factors like the size of the tattoo, the type of the ink used and the style.

During the first few days, it is extremely important to keep it clean day and night. Make sure you wash the tattoo area using your clean hands with warm water and antibacterial soap.

At week 2 and 3, it is normal for the tattoos to scab and peel. Avoid peeling, picking or pressing it to prevent irritation. You can also use a gentle lotion or a moisturizing ointment recommended by your tattoo artist to protect your skin.

After the scabbing and peeling and the skin feels new again, the healing is almost done. Your skin should now be back to normal with additional art. Even though at this stage it is no longer considered as an open wound, after care is still important.
